Means For Dreams

Means For Dreams is a nonprofit organization whose purpose is to ensure that Washington, DC public school teachers have the resources that they identify as important to learning and experience for their students. The Means For Dreams Web site is a "philanthropic exchange": a place where teachers-as-grant-seekers can request specific materials or services and individuals-as-grant makers can fund a proposal. The use of the Internet and the World Wide Web adds greater choice, efficiency, cost savings and speed of response to the direct connection of the traditional practice of exchange.

The Smithsonian Institution

The Smithsonian Institution not only offers 13 area museums to visit, including the National Zoo, but also has many other research and cultural facilities that would make great field trips. Their online field trip guide allows you to enter criteria and search for the best Smithsonian center to best meet your field trip objectives.

 

The Frederick Douglass National Historic Site

he Frederick Douglass National Historic Site is dedicated to preserving the legacy of the most famous African American of the 19th Century. Frederick Douglass' life spanned nearly eighty years, from the time that slavery was universal in American states to the time it was becoming a memory.

The Arena Stage

The Arena Stage’s Education Department is active in local arts endeavors with area school and arts organizations. Local schools and community groups take part in master classes and workshops, “meet the artist” events, and tours of the Arena Stage.

Architecture in Schools

Architecture in Schools is a curriculum enrichment program that matches the professional skills of architects with the talents of teachers in DCPS. The architects visit their classrooms once a week throughout the semester to demonstrate how the design of the built environment affects every aspect of their lives. By the end of the program, the students will have to complete a project.
