OveRview

1. Apply Online.

Complete our basic application online.  Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis and screened by subject area preference and licensure eligibility requirements.  Applicants are notified via e-mail within 30 business days of submission of a complete application if they are selected to proceed with the next steps of the recruitment process.

2.  Submission of Documentation & background check.

Selected c andidates will receive email detailing on what documents to submit to be part of the New Teacher Pool.  Candidates in the New Teacher Pool will be required to submit documentation (IN ONE PACKAGE) proving DC licensure eligibility before moving forward the placement stage of the process.

3.  Placement Interviews

New Teacher Pool candidates who have submitted all required documents are eligible to interview with specific schools once hiring season begins, typically in the early spring.  Candidates often interview with several schools to ensure the best possible match. Note that membership in the Teach DC pool does not guarantee a specific placement.

4.  Appointment

Candidates will be required to submit negative TB test results and undergo a fingerprinting/background check before being officially hired. Once a candidate is selected by a principal, the candidate’s documentation, negative TB test results, and fingerprint/background check are confirmed, an official employment offer will be made by the office of Human Resources.

5.  New Employee Orientation

In addition to contract and offer letter, new hires are provided information regarding medical enrollment, health plan, worker’s compensation, and other items related to employment during DCPS New Employee Orientation.

6.  New Teacher Induction

A mandatory, three day paid training session for all new teachers during the month of August.
