Notable Achivements
Four DCPS elementary schools, Burrville, Langdon, Mann and West, were named by the US Department of Education as Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence for student achievement.
National Teacher of the Year, Jason Kamras, taught at John Philip Sousa Middle School in southeast DC for 8 years before receiving the honor in 2005.
Three DCPS principals received national honors during the 2004-2005 year as outstanding academic leaders by the Met Life/ National Association of Secondary Schools and the National Association of Elementary School Principals.
In 2003, Newsweek Magazine named three DCPS senior high schools among the best in the nation. Banneker Senior High School ranked 50th on the list of the 100 Best High Schools in America. School Without Walls Senior High School and Wilson Senior High School were among the 700 best high schools in the nation.
